Widow's Weeds - Revenant

Paul Sands This album is plain and simple a ritual, a beautiful and moody invocation of those ancient gods that so many of us have forsaken. It will take you by the hand and lead you off the beaten path, deeper into the woods than you might feel comfortable with. Hold on tight though, as it may leave you there. So immersive is the experience it may take you a while to find your way out, should you even wish too. A soundtrack for the connections I yearn, the wisdoms I crave. In other words, bloody great. Favorite track: A Fracture In The Forest.

Steven C. Davis It's hauntingly, breath-takingly, beautiful; gives me the chills. I've heard 'A Whisper in the Woods' before, and that's pure beauty in 400 seconds. Their version of The Unquiet Grave is delightful. Overall, the album has an eerie, shimmering tranquillity that hints at so much more, just at the edge of sight, the edge of the forest, the edge of consciousness. This is the ice-laced mist before the night falls, before the cold penetrates, before the branches crack behind you ... Favorite track: A Fracture In The Forest.

about

This collection contains new, unreleased songs, utterances that were previously scattered across compilation albums, and some of the last gasps of The Hare & The Moon, which now feel much more like the infant cries of Widow's Weeds.

'There is a real world, but it is beyond this glamour and this vision, beyond these 'chases in Arras, dreams in a career,' beyond them all as beyond a veil. I do not know whether any human being has ever lifted that veil; but I do know...that you and I shall see it lifted this very night from before another's eyes. You may think this all strange nonsense; it may be strange, but it is true, and the ancients knew what lifting the veil means. They called it seeing the god Pan.' - Arthur Machen

'And suddenly, it came home to me, that I was a little man in a little ship, in the midst of a very great sea' - William Hope Hodgson

about

The Hare And The Moon Scotland, UK

The Hare And The Moon existed between 2009 and early 2017 and are now as ghosts. They lived in the forest and their main occupations were knitting, necromancy, dollmaking and devilry however sometimes they made music too. When they did they liked to throw their love of MR James, Arthur Machen, ghost stories, Black Sabbath, Pentangle and The Wicker Man into their cauldron and give it a good stir. ... more
